No sleep

Our first kid needed some various help sleeping, and I never considered her a rockstar sleeper. But I could tell when things worked and things didn't. Swaddle was awesome, white noise helped, etc. we tried various things and some worked and some didn't, but there were various results.
This child?  Doesn't sleep. We try different things, she doesn't sleep. We try more things, she still doesn't sleep. There is no pattern, no rhyme or reason.
I don't mean to make this sound like one long whine, but that's kinda how I feel. She's almost 10 months. At some point she has to sleep right?!

Running

I have started the couch to 5K running thing.  Hi bandwagon, I'd like to jump on!  I completed week one, and am immensely proud of myself.  Running is just not my thing, and never will be, but I've got to get exercising.  And I can do this and entertain Ella.  I was doing this post pregnancy exercise video (and that worked well over the summer) but I think I got a little tired of it, plus Ella kept trying to play with  me while I exercised.  So that fell apart over the fall.  Maybe I'll pick it up again over the summer though, when it is blistering out.
Most boring blog post ever.
sigh.

Cactus & Yard

We finally got our yard completely walled in.  (Walls of concrete block are the fences here, not wood.  I think I've finally gotten used to it.)  Which the dog is completely grateful for.  So yesterday we were all out cleaning it up some, and playing fetch.  And Ella discovered a cactus.  And by discovered, I mean she grabbed it with both hands and started to bite it.
So we rushed her inside and tried to get all of the spines out.  They were the little itty bitty spines, that are fine as hair.  I think we got them all out, but she was not a happy camper!
The cacti are mostly dead, and were when we bought the house, so I think we will just remove and dispose of them.

TV Shows, online, on tv

I have Netflix streaming, and I do most of my TV watching on it.  And I mostly do it mid-afternoon (nap time!), or very late in the evening.  (We don't have a DVR, and won't anytime soon.)  I've never been a TV show follower.  We didn't have a tv until I was in high school, and never cable.  So I just never started the transition of watching tv shows.
Except, now that I can watch a whole series of years of seasons on Netflix!  I'm caught up on Bones, a season and a half in on Friday Night Lights, mid-way through on Gossip Girl, Downton Abbey, just started Lie To Me, and have a few fall backs like Numb3rs.

BUT, here is the problem.  It takes too long for the most recent season to show up on Netflix.  Bones for example.  I watched them all when Ella was newborn.  And I liked it, and probably would have watched the new episodes on cable TV, EXCEPT that season 6 isn't released until season 7 is halfway through.  So I've missed some!  And have to wait until the whole season comes out again.  I suppose I could watch some online on the network's website, but that is just too complicated.  Release the most recent season before the new one begins and I will watch it on tv, not just netflix, and advertisers will love that.

Awesome Day

So my birthday was a few weeks back, and it was ok as far as birthdays go. We kept it low key since we'd just had a big Christmas with my whole family.

But today? A random Thursday at the end of January was so awesome, it totally felt like my birthday. Evan is off on Wednesday and Thursday, by the way, so this was my weekend. Anyway, we awoke nice and early to screaming Ella. That was unusual, since she often wakes gently and babbling. We did our morning nursing, and then I took Evan up on his offer to let me sleep in. So I went back to sleep for three hours! Glorious. And the best part was that Evan and Ella did all the morning chores, so it wasn't like sleeping in made me work twice as hard when I woke up. I swear I woke up thinking it was my birthday.
Then, later in the afternoon, I ran some errands all by myself, and made a detour to Ulta, which I'd never been to. Putting that right next to Babies R Us was pretty smart.
And Evan cooked dinner.
All in all, I had a nice day.

Year in Review

1. What did you do in 2011 that you’d never done before?
I began standing up for myself, usually in the form of polite confrontation.  I basically asked for what I needed, and followed through.  I also spent a year as a stay at home mom.
I also feel compelled to add that I skied for the first time in three seasons. Took swim lessons with kiddo.  Nursed a toddler.
I also think that I grew up, or really grew into myself.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Didn't really make them last year, but will make them this year.  And I will try to follow them.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Friend and cousin.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5. What countries did you visit?
Countries and states:  New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Mexico, Georgia, North Carolina, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Wyoming, Tennessee.  I traveled more with a baby than in the five years before the baby.  That is backwards.
6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
A newborn baby.
7. What dates from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
April 28th, lost a dog.
Dec 15th, miscarriage.
March  Bought a house, Went to an important retirement party,
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

I simply stayed sane.  Bought a house.  Raised a toddler.
9. What was your biggest failure?
I often spent too much money, and did it as a coping mechanism.  Stressed and long days with baby?  I bought stuff online!  Well, as I said, I stayed sane.  I also had some not-my-finest moments parenting.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
No.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
A car!  The ability to easily go places with my child is an unparalleled sense of freedom.
12. Where did most of your money go?
House, car, bags, stuff for house.
13. What did you get really excited about?
This year was excitement after excitement.  Traveling, seeing people, internet fun, moving, unpacking, body care, new car, watching baby grow up, and the list goes on.
14. What song will always remind you of 2011?
Barefoot Blue Jean Night, Tonight Tonight, You and Tequila, Colder Weather,
15. Compared to this time last year, are you:

– happier or sadder?  Happier.
– thinner or fatter?  Thinner, but not enough.
– richer or poorer? Both.
16. What do you wish you’d done more of?

Get out of the house.
17. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Cleaning, or worrying about cleaning.  Maybe just less worrying in general.
18. How did you spend Christmas?
The 15 people on my mom's side of the family came to visit!  That was awesome and insane.  And went too fast.
19. What was your favorite TV program?
Bones, thanks to Netflix.
20. What were your favorite books of the year?
I did not read as much as I wish I had.  But I did finally get a library card and start going there.  So that is nice.
21. What was your favorite music from this year?

See songs above.  We listened to a lot of radio and Pandora, since I needed to hear some real words, not just babbling.
22. What were your favorite films of the year?
Netflix streaming TV shows was more relevant than the movies.  Another year movies may be more important again.  Oh, I guess we did finally finish the Harry Potter series of movies, which was very important to us.
23. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 33, and have no recollection of what I did.
24. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Doing better at losing weight.  Not learning how hard it was to deal with a hangover and a toddler at the same time.
25. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
Comfortable.
26. What kept you sane?
Online shopping, my mother, Skype, my iPod touch, my camera (shrieking baby?  video it!), netflix, music, Facebook, twitter, my husband and baby girl.
27. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011.

Kindness is the most important thing in my world.

Beginnings

You see Internet, the main problem is that, after getting to sit on my patootie for three hours (ok, let's be honest) four hours, with no one wanting anything from me or talking to me, or grunting at me, well after all that glorious quiet time, then, THEN, I feel quite energized and ready to rock and roll, and accomplish my entire to-do list in one evening. And, apparently, I have enough energy to type out the world's longest run on sentence.
But, sadly, that spurt of energy arrives when I should be heading to bed. And if I don't go to bed and sleep, then I will be hating the world tomorrow morning.
The other downside, is that while I have all this seeming energy, I did have a long day, and tend to lose my point quickly and sometimes ramble.
Which I am doing now. This is not an auspicious beginning Internet.
By the way, I am Phancy and I am a mama. Not mama to Phancy though, that's me. And I think I am funny. Which, since I spend the majority of time with myself and a non-English-speaking (or really, any other language recognized on this planet), anyway, it behooves me to find myself funny, since I am in my own company so often.
So, end rambling, and hello blogging!
P.s. I am not proof reading, tonight anyway.
